At Phoenix Cyber Academy (PCA) we know that traditional paths to entering the exciting, interesting, and lucrative field of cyber security can be very expensive and time consuming. These are obvious barriers for entry to disadvantaged members of our community.

With more than 3 million open cyber security jobs we knew there had to be a better way to ensure motivated underprivileged individuals could obtain employable skills and certifications in a quick and affordable manner.

PCA has developed a standardized, repeatable, and short (4 week) cyber security vocational training program designed to educate students quickly so they have the foundational knowledge and industry-accepted certifications desired by employers who need to secure their organizations.

This initial core program is followed by a 12-week employer-sponsored apprenticeship, including participation in a career specialization certification program.

The program is designed to be free for disadvantaged members of our communities. Tuition and Cost of Living scholarships for disadvantaged students are 100% funded through donations and grants.

Students may attend the cyber security career accelerator program in-classroom (Mesa, Arizona) or remote (live, online).

Our employer partnership program provides local employers prioritized access to our pipeline of qualified graduates. Partner program employers are also able to visit us on-site, review student progress reports, and conduct pre-graduation interviews.

Phoenix Cyber Academy Inc. is as an approved Arizona non-profit and is actively pursuing federal 501(c)(3) status to encourage broader financial support and collaboration with industry partners, the government, and employers.

We have partnered with industry-leading cyber security certification issuers to ensure the training we deliver is of high-quality and industry-accepted.

We recently conducted a poll on LinkedIn, which revealed that 62% of hiring managers would prefer an entry-level information security candidate with certifications over a college graduate with no certifications.

Our Foundations program includes the following professional certifications. Students enrolled in our Apprenticeship program are given the opportunity to complete an advanced certification course, which is determined based on student performance and employer demand.

COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS FOR BUSINESS

In today’s workplace, soft skills such as communication skills are pivotal for success. With communication skills consistently being one of the top skills employers are looking for, developing these skills can give candidates a big edge on the competition.

Poor communication is very expensive for companies. Studies have been done that estimate businesses with 100 employees lose an average of $420,000 per year due to poor communication between employees. The cost goes up based on the number of employees.

The CSB certification gives job candidates the proof they understand the importance of good communications and have earned the basic skills needed to be effective and efficient in their jobs, while saving the company money by not communicating poorly.

While the key skill being measured is communication the course also helps candidates with the other 3 of “the 4 C’s”:

— Critical thinking – which will happen as they think through how to effectively communicate

— Collaboration – which will stem from effectively communicating with others

— Creativity – which is required to present appealing communications

The skills and expertise gained during our program are only as strong as a graduate’s ability to convey them. To secure a job that appeals to graduates, they also need to know how to present themselves as an attractive potential employee.

Our career development course helps graduates highlight their skills and stand out in the crowd through application materials, networking opportunities, and interviews. By the end of the course, students are equipped to make a lasting impression on hiring managers and others throughout their job search.

During this course students learn:

— How to construct eye-catching resumes, cover letters, and other supplements

— How to customize application materials for different professional opportunities

— How to create and curate professional profiles on social networks like LinkedIn to showcase your strengths

— How to strategically grow and use your network

— How to prepare for and excel in any interview

— How to effectively follow up with interviewers and hiring managers throughout the interview process

FUNDAMENTALS

Our program begins with establishing a solid foundation of cyber security knowledge from the perspective of a user and a practitioner. Students begin the transformation from the weakest link in the security chain to the strongest.

CRITICAL PRACTICAL DOMAINS

With a broad foundation set, we dig into the fundamentals of assets, attacking, defending, investigating, and responding. Students graduate with a deep understanding of threats facing organizations and individuals.

SECURITY MANAGEMENT

Although not prepared to act as a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) we nonetheless train our students in CISO-relevant domains so they see the big picture of an effective information security program.

TIME TO EMPLOYABLE

Our innovative cyber security career training and employment accelerator program takes a mere four weeks to complete. With capacity for up to 20-40 in-classroom and 100 remote students per five annual program sprints, we are able to put nearly 600-700 new cyber security professionals into Arizona and national workforces annually.

This program is 100% live in both an in-person, socially-distanced, live, in-classroom setting or remotely online and runs Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for four consecutive weeks.

The program times are inclusive of lectures, online labs, and online exams.
